The business
After 13 years of working at Horgan’s Sandwich Bar, manager Elaine Halliwell was offered the opportunity to buy the business. She was both scared and excited. She had lots of ideas about what she wanted to do with it – including adding halal, vegan and weight watchers options to the takeaway breakfast and lunch menu, re-decorating, and creating an eating area outside overlooking the canal – but she didn’t know where to start to find the finance. Then she discovered ART, which supported her all the way.
The loan
ART helped to put a package of finance together with Barclays, enabling Elaine to buy the business and put all her plans for developing it into action.
The outcome
Elaine has retained her loyal customer base and attracted new customers. She says she never takes her customers for granted and is always looking for ways to improve. Horgans is not just a sandwich bar, she says, but also a bit of a meeting place attracting customers from some distance, who enjoy the friendly atmosphere and having a bit of a laugh with the staff.
